Things You Might Not Know About Me

August 16, 2011 By Jenna 7 Comments

I stumbled upon this website today, and I thought I’d answer a few of the questions for some of the new readers. Feel free to answer some of the questions in the comment section!
Where is your family blood line from?
On my mom’s side, we are Sicilian and Polish. I definitely got the Polish looks. On my dad’s? Well, I just don’t know!

What book made you cry?
I told myself I wouldn’t let it, but I fell victim. Marley and Me. I’ll post more on that one soon.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you with your life right now?
I’m going to give you two numbers on this one. My life is a 10 and a 7. The ten is when I think about all of the blessings I have: a beautiful baby girl, a caring husband, supportive family, the ability to be a stay-at-home mom, food, friends, etc. The seven is for those times when I am unsure of myself as a parent. Am I doing this right? Will this ever pass? I am so tired! You know, those moments.
What is the most valuable thing in your life?
Since this says “thing”, I’m going to stick with an object (otherwise it would be my daughter!). The most valuable thing in my life? It would have to be my wedding ring. I love it for its beauty, but also for what it stands for.

What is your favorite dessert?
When I was pregnant, it was lime popsicles. Now that I’m not, anything chocolate. I have been dying for a hot fudge brownie sundae lately.

If you had it to do over again what would you study in school?
I got my degree in English Education, but if I had to do it over, I would have studied Spanish or went to Culinary School. Or maybe I would have done Library Sciences. Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda.

What song motivates you when you are exercising?
Here’s my running playlist:
How do you express love?
I think it’s easy to express love in the ways we want to be loved. I like when Mike takes initiative to clean around the house or when he tells me he is proud of something I do. I know Mike likes snuggling and food. I have to remember we both require different things to feel love.
What food makes you think of Christmas?
I love me some Stollen. It’s basically a German fruitcake containing dried, candied fruit, nuts, spices, and a glaze. We love to toast it up, butter it, and eat it while we open presents and watch A Christmas Story. My Uncle Joe made it every year for the family, and now my cousin Kristen has taken over the tradition.

Would you rather be hungry or thirsty?
When I get thirsty or any kind of dehydrated, my anxiety disorder is exacerbated and I get foggy-headed and dizzy. I would much rather be hungry. I think my husband would rather see me thirsty though. When momma’s hungry, momma’s crabby.
If you could bring one thing from the 1950’s to the present day what would it be?
Without a doubt, it would be the sense of community. I wish people still interacted with neighbors, belonged to social groups and were interested in each other’s lives. Mother Theresa always said the greatest poverty of our time is loneliness, and I tend to agree.

When do you have problems accepting criticism?
When I am proud of and happy with something I’ve done and someone feels the need to criticize, I have a problem with that. Let a happy person be happy!

Who was the first person who you cared more about their well being than your own?
I would say my husband, but after my daughter was born, this feeling went to a whole new level I didn’t know existed.
What junk food is your weakness?
Doritos. Evil, evil things. What’s worse is that they are always buy one, get one at our grocery store.
What song do you listen to when you are feeling sorry for your self?
I don’t like to wallow so much, so I like to listen to “Move Along” by All-American Rejects. “When all you’ve got to keep is strong, move along, move along.”
What would you want your epitaph to say?
Loving Mother
Faithful Wife
Devoted Daughter
Catholic Light
What girls name do you dislike?
Yikes. That’s a loaded question. I’ll pass…

What book would you like to read?
I have two books in my queue: Secret Daughter and The Help. I’ll get to those as soon as I finish Traveling With Pomegranates. Reading is taking a back seat lately though…snuggles are more important.
Where are your ticklish spots?
Do. Not. Touch. My. Neck. I am not responsible for any injury you suffer if this warning is not heeded.

What do you know how to say in a foreign language?
Puedo decir muchas cosas in Espanol.

What is your all time favorite joke?
Oh, this changes all the time. Really I love a good pun. Here is the most recent:
Did you hear about the man who fell into the upholstery machine? Don’t worry, he is completely recovered.

Now that you’re a mother to a daughter, what would you like to say to your mom about that mother/daughter relationship?

I never knew how much you love me until I Ellen. Also, I never knew how much you sacraficed for me. I’m sorry about all of the sleepless nights and crying tantrums even though I know it was all worth it to you. I know this because she’s worth it to me :)

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Great idea! What a fun way to get to know you better! How’s Ellen sleeping?

It takes time, unfortunately. Sullivan did ok at night but wouldn’t nap for longer than 20 minutes the first 6 weeks. I was a walking zombie. Everyone always knows someone who’s kid slept great from the get-go and they like telling you about it a lot. I always wanted to throw used diapers at those people.

Enjoy your snuggles! They grow out of it so stinking fast.
