Safety Dance

June 12, 2012 By Jenna 3 Comments

You can dance if you want to…wait. Not that one.
Mike went to Home Depot and bought the store. He is in the process of wiring and nailing every object we own to the wall. Right now he is anchoring the throw pillows and toilet paper to the floor. Here’s hoping that we have secured everything in our entire apartment in order to avoid another incident that makes me want to vomit all over the place out of terror.
Here is a look at what happened yesterday. Please note we took this picture after having Ellen checked out…duh.

So, after Mike bought one million nuts and bolts thingys, he also bought what we like to call The Great Wall of Child. It’s amazing in all of its 12 ft long glory:
We also did other safety related things this weekend. We bought Ellen a bike trailer and a cute helmet. She looks so cute when she is safe. Heck, she looks cute no matter what.
Clearly loving every minute of the ride.
Finally, I just want to say thank you to everyone who commented on my last post by blog, Facebook, email or text. I received so many encouraging words, pieces of advice, and ridiculous stories. It made me feel so much better that I’m not the only one who has no idea what she is doing at times. Man, how are we allowed to raise these little babes?
Seriously though. You are all such great support and even better mothers. So, big hugs, kisses and thanks to all of my Internet and life friends and family. Muah!

Hi Jenna, you did so much to protect Ellen…but did you remember the sunscreen???? And despite all that parents do to protect their children…you can never really protect them against themselves…LOL..kids will ALWAYS find a way….At least that’s what my Mom always used to say…Other famous Mom’s last words: How the hell did you get up there? What in the world made you think you could fit in there? What WERE you thinking????!?!?!?! You’re gonna regret that….I tried to warn you….I tried to tell you….I’m sure other Mom’s can provide more…but I always remember…Mom’s may not like what their kids do…but they still love their kids…AMEN!

Did you see that poor child dangling from her caught head in China yesterday? Yep, all over the world it’s happening. Not a new phenomenon of course.

Look at that angel fast asleep in the carrier!!!

I loveeeee the baby gate.  our world changed once we had her in it..she could roam free without me having to worry she’d get into an area I’d have to chase her out of….life became a lot more comfortable.  And, I’m not ashamed to admit it – she was a playpen baby for part of her crawler years. Parenting is survival mode 24/7.  Working outside the home, I have to find places where she’s safe and I can still get stuff done…it sucks, but I’d go insane. I could tell you numerous accidents in our home.  Sometimes, you want to look at God and go really???

I’ll leave you with this story, as it’s someone I know from college.  it’s heartbreaking, and tragic, and makes all the little things disappear.  Prayers are needed for this mom and dad….
