Festival of Garage Sales

May 9, 2012 By Jenna 10 Comments

I went to heaven this weekend. Actually, we went to the Festival of Garage Sales in Minneapolis, but I’m being redundant. Mike could not park the car fast enough, and I was so overwhelmed at how many houses were participating. There is no way we saw all of them. Just no way. I kind of die a little inside every time I think about it. I just love the thrill of walking up to someone’s house and you don’t know what you might find. Books for a quarter? A dust buster I am badly in need of? Or maybe a huge embroidery hoop, awesome wall hooks and free fabric! Who gives that much fabric away for free?

Maybe you’ll find the cutest chippy paint desk and chair combo in the universe. I know I did! Just look at this. This is one of my best scores of all time. I saw it and put my hands all over it to claim it as my own. I heard a girl tell her husband that she loved it and was going to take it if I walked away. I did not.walk.away. Now, it is going to find a wonderful home underneath my sewing machine. Sorry old sewing table.
We saw lots of houses with tons of character, ate corn dogs, enjoyed being outside and walking around despite the rain, and then came home to see that the Tigers were nationally televised. A pretty good Saturday indeed.
What is your best garage sale find ever?
p.s. Mike just burped so loud, and I said, “Not in front of the baby!” And he said, “But, I’m sitting behind her. Gotcha!” Weirdo.

I have a friend who is a garage sailing wizard… If ever we need something, we’ll just ask her to keep an eye out for it, and she’ll have it for us from a garage sale, almost always within the week during sale season… We found all of my brother’s dorm things (microwave, fridge, you know the male necessities) through her. My favorite find was a vintage rotary dial telephone that doesn’t work, but is totally legit and looks so cool I had to get it. $2. Win!! Perfect for photo props…

I can’t say one specific thing, but my mom has basically garage saled Lucia’s entire wardrobe from birht to 5 years, plus toys, books, etc. etc. etc. Everything a baby could need. For PEANUTS. Some of the things were brand new with tags, including very expensive boutique baby clothes – for quarters!! Quarters!!
