Best of the Web: Halloween
In honor of Halloween, here are some of the best things that I have found on the best site besides this blog: Pinterest!
And what are you doing to celebrate Halloween? Let me know in the comment section!
The Big 9-0
This past weekend, Mike, Ellen and I went into town for my grandma’s 90th (!!!) birthday party. Ellen got to spend some time with her Great Grandma among many other people, and she also got to meet her Great Aunt Ellen. Here’s a couple of pics to commemorate the event.
Thanks to Aunt Ann and Uncle Gary for the awesome pictures!
My Husband
My husband likes to fish.

He really likes to bike.

He rocks out on guitar.

He snowboards like a champ.

He drives fast cars.

He plays a little disc golf.

And still finds time to be the very best dad.

One year ago today, he married me. He is the man of many hats, and I love him dearly.

The Baby Shower
This weekend was our baby shower! I have been to so many showers in my life, and it was really cool to finally be at my own. My parents worked their little behinds off to make their house look like it should be in Better Homes and Gardens. Take a look at some of the pictures of their garden. I overheard so many people talk about how jealous they were, and I would definitely count myself among that group (although I lack all motivation to ever accomplish something like that…).
The food was phenomenal, the sun was out, and many of my favorite people came to celebrate with us. Everyone was so generous that Ellen has everything she could need and more!
So, before more pictures, a very special thank you to my mom and dad, my in-laws, my Aunt Ann and Uncle Gary and my husband and brother. Everyone did such a fantastic job, and Mike, Ellen and I are blessed to have you in our lives! Thank you!
A gift from Rylie: her blanket from when she was a baby. Rylie said she was all done with it, so Ellen can have it now. So sweet.
Opening a bracelet from Agape Gifts. You have to check this place out. They make the most beautiful gifts for any occasion!
Flowers and a rubber ducky from my Godson, Nikolas. Another sweetie pie!
The men did a great job serving all of us ladies!
Our cake from Mannino’s Bakery. I love birds and flowers, so this cake was just perfect. Some of you might remember our cake from our wedding shower which read, “Jenna and Mike sitting on the porch…”
Opening gifts from so many generous and thoughtful people.
The crowd. Check out Nikolas holding strong as the only male representative of the entire group.
And the dad-to-be. Mike and I made white chocolate popcorn for the shower. I don’t know if he liked making it or eating it better…
Good Friday Dinner
I am starting to make it a point to celebrate my faith throughout the year. I think that while we have many Holy Days and feast days on the liturgical calendar, we could do a better job of making each one special. This book does a great job of helping with that task. I want Ellie to see that our faith is a celebration of thanksgiving for God’s gifts to us. So, keep checking back here for random little things you can do to make each special day in our faith a special day in your home as well!
Now, Good Friday is the last day fasting from meat during Lent, but there is also a special “twist” on what should be served for dinner tonight. I originally read about this in The Catholic Home, but I also found this little blurb on the interwebs!
“In 1440 a page in the prayer book used by Catharine of Cleves depicted St. Bartholomew surrounded by pretzels. They were thought to bring good luck, prosperity and spiritual wholeness. A decade later in 1450, Germans ate pretzels and hard-boiled eggs for dinner on Good Friday – the day of fasting. The large, puffy pretzel symbolized everlasting life, and the two hard-boiled eggs, nestled in each of the large round curves of the pretzel, represented Easter’s rebirth.”
So, break out the Rold Gold (or try this recipe that I worked on today), and crack open those Easter eggs you dyed. Add them to your Fillet O’ Fish, and you can have your own Good Friday feast!
God’s Greatest Gifts — One Awesome Day
In the beginning…
“God blessed them, saying to them, ‘Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Be masters of the fish of the sea, the birds of heaven and all the living creatures that move on earth.'” Genesis 1:28
Then, in an even more generous gift…
“For this is how God loved the world: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” John 3:16
Happy Earth Day and a Blessed Good Friday. Enjoy them both together, and remember: they are of God’s greatest gifts!
And, if you have kids, try these out: Easter Story Cookies. My mom sent me the article this morning. Yet another reason I can’t wait for Ellen to be here!
