My Thoughts on the CT Shooting

I wasn’t going to write anything about this because, sometimes, I am just not emotionally strong enough to. But, I think that writing helps me figure things out a bit too. I’ll keep it brief because I don’t know a lot of details about the event, and I don’t plan on immersing myself into the story either. All I plan to do is pray for all of those involved, victims and perpetrators.

Here is what I do think:

Today is a day of prayer and a day of support. I know hard conversations and decisions are on the horizon, and there will be a time for those. But today, let’s pray and offer kind words to those involved. Let’s also speak kindly to one another and show extra love to our children…and all of God’s children today.

Now more than ever, we need to be a culture of life. If we fight for the lives of even the smallest and most vulnerable of our society, it will send a grand message to the people of the world. Can you imagine if the norm in our country was to protect ALL life? Can you imagine the sanctity each person’s soul would hold? I am talking young, old, sinners, saints, rich, poor, and yes, the unborn.

If you’re wondering what you can do beyond prayer, consider speaking up for life. Yes, bad things may continue to happen – God did give us free will. But, protecting all life will only instill a greater respect for humanity in us all.

This post isn’t a place to debate abortion or gun control. I don’t have the energy for that right now. All I am asking is that today you take time to pray, and if you’re not already, just consider joining the pro-life movement. Think of the difference it would make.

  2. Well said. We do need to defend all life. Our hearts should ache when life is taken. We need to take action in standing up for life and we need to pray…

  3. I believe that is very well said. I know my soul needs to feel whole and full again after today. I know prayer and dependence upon the Lord is the best thing we can do. I also agree we should speak up for all like even the littlest and unborn.
I came over from the weekend blog walk. Thanks so much for Co-Hosting. I am your newest follower. I wish it didn’t have to be on such a somber note. But I sure do look forward to hearing more from you in the future.

Well said, Jenna. Life matters and each of us has a responsiblity to stand up and speak out. If we truly understood that ALL life has dignity and value and should be protected – and if these things were taught in all of our homes and schools our nation and world would be transformed. I like to think about what this nation and world would look like if this were the “norm.”
