If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I have gone through a couple of redesigns, and I finally feel like I have my blog where I want it. I searched everywhere to find a company that could create a fresh, clean, easy to use site. And, I am so happy that I was able to work with Lauren from Santa Clara Design.
One of the main reasons I loved working with Lauren is that she is passionate about creating beautiful sites that glorify God. I can tell those are her favorite kinds of projects! When you hire her, Lauren is not just your designer, she becomes a friend.
You have to read more about Lauren and her company; it’s pretty awesome. I’ve got all the deets right here:
1. How would you describe your business for someone who has never heard of you?
My name is Lauren Gulde. I’ve been married to my fabulous man, Curt for 13 years. We have 4 lovely children ages 12, 10, 6 and 4, whom we lovingly refer to as our fearsome foursome! We live in College Station, TX.
My business, Santa Clara Design, has provided graphic and web design services since 2002. I build beautiful, custom and easy to use websites and blogs using WordPress as a CMS. I am full-service web designer and I am truly a designer at heart. When I get a new client, I start by talking with them and learning about their goals. We work together to determine their specific design style. Then, I begin the design process. I create all of my designs from scratch, using custom graphics and work primarily in Photoshop and Illustrator. Once the design is perfect, I take the design and make it come to life on the web, using WordPress for the CMS platform. I am a recommended developer for StudioPress, and use their Genesis framework on all of my websites.
2. Can you tell me about Santa Clara Design’s beginnings? Your namesake?
I began Santa Clara Design soon after my second child was born. I had been working for several years in the pro-life movement, as the founder of the Coalition for Life in Bryan/College Station, TX. However, the job was too much for a mom who really wanted to be at home with her babies! So, I starting to ponder what I could do to make some extra money but be at home with my children, spend quality time with them and avoid full-time daycare. I’ve loved design since high school when I worked as the design editor for our literary magazine and the school newspaper. During my time with the Coalition for Life, I developed several websites for our work. After praying about our situation, I decided to give web and graphic design a go! It was something I loved to do and allowed me a flexible schedule. So, I sent out emails to friends, I made my little self a website and literally started knocking on doors asking for work. Slowly but surely, my business grew and grew! I have been blessed with the most fabulous clients, from all over the world! I have learned the sweet background stories of my blogging clients, what really drives them to write. I’ve sat across the table from men and women starting a business and asking for my help to make it a success. I love their stories of determination and dreams. I am honored to be a part of their work and their stories. I so love my job!
Santa Clara Design is NOT based in Santa Clara, CA, although I DO get calls from Santa Clara residents at times! My company is dedicated to my Confirmation Saint, St. Clare of Assisi. I am a convert to Catholicism, and have a great devotion to St. Clare. When starting my business, I thought what better way to thank her for her faithfulness to me, and ensure that I keep my business goals on the right track than to dedicate all my work to St. Clare. I pray before taking each new job. I do not take work that contradicts my morals or the Church. One of my professional goals is to help bring the beauty of quality media to the Church. I look to serve Catholic ministries, organizations and writers whenever I can.
3. What range of services do you offer your clients? Is this a one-woman operation, or do you have employees who work with clients as well?
Santa Clara Design is my baby, and I handle each project that comes my way. I do all my own design work and most of the web development. I do have an incredible team that steps in for custom development and branding work when needed. Here is a list of my services.
