When I first quit working to stay at home, I thought, “Now I will have all of this free time to do hobbies!” And God laughed.
But seriously, I do find time here and there when the kids are napping or entertaining themselves where I can squeeze in 10 minutes of me time. So, I wanted to find hobbies that I can pick up and put down easily or hobbies where the kids can “help.” This is what I’ve come up with:
I love my Kindle Paperwhite because I can load a few books to take with me everywhere. Now I can read for a few moments and just power down when the kids need me. I also throw it in my purse for when the kids are going to nap in the car.
Or baking anything really. This is one that I can easily put Sam in the carrier and let Ellen help pour the ingredients. She loves to be my “little chef-er.” Yeah, it takes longer, but what am I really doing all day anyway? Taking care of the kids. Might as well bake something too.
Definitely one of my fave/most relaxing hobbies. This is THE best craft for a mom because I can work on it for two minutes and set it down without worrying about losing my groove or place. What do I do with all of the things I embroider? Um, nothing. It’s the process, people.
Obviously. And you can too. You don’t need to publish content regularly for a large audience. You can just create yerself a little ol’ blog and document funny things your kids say or publish family updates for out of town relatives. Easy peasy.
What do you do when you’re staying at home? Oh, and, don’t get me wrong. I also watch my fair share of TV and stare blankly at walls when I get the occasional break. I sure do.
