Meet Karianna! My goal is to put forth my best self everyday and inspire others to do the same. There will be days when I want to do nothing more than to lounge around in my sweats and eat chocolate… but that’s not going to happen, so I might as well look nice while going through what I’m going through. I am a social person and I would love to hear from you whether it’s here in the com box or on Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter. I used to blog under the name Caffeinated Catholic Mama… and those descriptors still apply, more so than ever!

VLOG: Applying Bold Lips

I love applying bold lips while playing down the rest of my makeup. It makes me feel a bit more fancy without a big commitment. What would a really fancy big commitment look like anyway? Tattooed makeup? Is that even fancy?

If you’ve been wanting to try a bold lip but you’re unsure of how to execute it, watch my quick tutorial. And remember, it wipes away later. No fear!

#5Faves: Makeup Tips

One time, my friend’s mom told me to squeeze my butt cheeks together before pulling on my pants, and then my underwear wouldn’t give me a wedgie after suiting up. I’ve been a sucker for hot tips ever since. Here are my #5Fave makeup tips. Not butt tips. Sorry.

-1-

Stick Your Finger in Your Mouth: After applying lipstick, stick your finger in your mouth and purse your lips. While pursing, pull out your finger. All that lipstick could have been on your teeth. You’re welcome.

-2-

Hold Your Makeup Remover Cloth on Your Eyes: Do this for 10 secs before removing your eye makeup. It loosens up the mascara and eyeliner and makes it a breeze to wipe away after that.

-3-

Never Put Concealer on Your Eyelids: It just ends up creasing and looking oily. And, if you put eye shadow on top of it, that gets all creasy too.

-4-

Hot Pink Blush: No idea what color blush to use? Try a hot pink. It is flattering to almost every skin tone. Just don’t go crazy brushing it on like tribal stripes.

-5-

Green Makeup: If hot pink isn’t enough, buy a tube of green makeup (I like Physician’s Formula) for blemishes. Just dab some over any red spots or areas, and then conceal as usual. It really hides the redness. I would know.

#5Faves: Ulta & Sephora Haul

What just happened?

You ain’t in Kansas anymore, baby. Or I suppose Heather actually lives in New York. Whichever. Anyway, I am so SO grateful that she is passing the 5Faves torch on to moi. Based on my predecessors, I feel like a donkey among horses. But, I’m your donkey now. And I’m here to make a donkey out of myself.

So why are we wasting time? I have makeup to show you.

Christian Dior Contour Transparent Lipliner

I DO NOT have room for 85 shades of lip liner. So, I just about died when I found this transparent lipliner that works with…wait for it…any color ever. The quality is insane, and I have used it every single day since I bought it.

-2-

L’Oreal Paris True Match Powder

I watched the coolest contouring video on the Youtube last week. Just like Leighann Says, I bought a pressed powder in a couple of shades lighter than my skin color. So subtle but so effective. Turns out I can fake cheekbones.

-3-

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush

And I highly rec this brush to do your contouring with. I looked through a ton, and this one seemed to be the best quality for the least amount of dough.

Essence How to Make Nude Eyes Palette

The reason I love this so much is that it creates two different natural/nude looking eye shadow looks, and it comes with a cheat sheet showing you how to do it. So, you just pull out the little card and apply. It’s like a little makeup class in yo bag.

Nyx Primal Colors

I’m going to do more sugar skull makeup for Halloween this year. But, I wanted to add more colors to my arsenal. This time I picked up yellow and pink to add the the teal and red I have. Maybe next year I will go crazy and do some purple. These colors can be applied wet for darker precision or dry for a lighter look.

Oh Hot Damn: Tips for Your Jams

I know. I know. I’ve been doing a lot of sponsored posts lately, but I hope they are at least…helpful? I had quite a few backed up after my break, so you’re getting them now. And, best of all? They are all my own thoughts and opinions! Woo!

I think I’ve made it pretty clear that I like having my nails done. As a matter of fact, I went to a nail place a month or two ago to get a gel manicure. I love those – when they are done correctly. This time it was, like, $60 for a real disaster of a job. I vowed that I’d had it. Mama don’t got that kind of cash flow for nonsense.

Mama don’t got that kind of cash flow for nonsense.

So, I started a Facebook hunt for something cheaper that would still last. I came up with a great base and top coat combo, but I also found Jamberry.

Pros

  • Last up to two weeks, although they do start to look like they need a change by then
  • Fancy colors and graphics that are impossible to create by yourself no matter what Pinterest tells you
  • No drying time
  • Depending on how big your nails are, it comes out to about $3.75 per mani and pedi

Cons

  • Definite learning curve (my third time was a charm)
  • Take a long time to put on (30 minutes), but I guess if you consider getting a manicure at a salon and drying time, this is MUCH less time consuming.
  • Not as many solid colors; I’m a plain Jane
  • I don’t know if this is from the gel or from the jams, so I can’t really say for sure, but my nails seem a bit brittle right now. I DID peel gel off my fingers instead of getting it removed, so there’s that…

Tips

  • There are a few methods for applying your jams (check Youtube), but stick with the traditional heat method on the package. It lasts much longer.
  • Once you initially heat the wrap and place it on your nail, use tweezers to really stretch it out over your nail to get rid of wrinkles
  • Heat up your tweezers and use them to iron out any imperfections or to seal the tips of your nails
  • If you are really hard on your nails, consider sealing the tips with a bit of nail glue
  • Tips and videos from Jamberry .

3. I love all of the items hard.
4. There is a giveaway and a discount code.
5. I don’t like even numbered lists.

So, head over to Raising Barnes and win yourself something nice. You deserve it.

Nailed It

I thought I would start off this 7×7 challenge with something that will really make you think. I want to challenge you to not only be a better person but to make the world a better place.

So let’s talk nail polish.

Ahem.

PicMonkey Collage

Essie Good as Gold: Perfect for when I am pretending to be fashionable, classy and chic. You know, all of those things I AM NOT. But, you slather this on your nails, and suddenly you start touching things more lightly and pointing at things differently. Am I the only one who feels like her fingers feel different with a good polish on?

Sinful Colors Glow in the Dark: This is the polish Mike hates the most because whenever I wear it, I make him look at my nails under the covers until he doesn’t care anymore which is instantly. It’s the small things in life that make it enjoyable.

Dior Blue Label: When I was hunting for a navy nail polish a few years back, I couldn’t find a good one anywhere. Now Essie has the best color ever (Under the Twilight), but I still have this crazy expensive bottle of Dior which means I cannot justify another navy polish in my apparently dear collections (otherwise, why would I torture you with this?).

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark: I’m fairly certain everyone has heard of LPAD. It’s my go-to winter color, and I have only one issue with it: it shows chips so easily. Do you have any idea how easily dark polish chips when you spend your whole day changing diapers and giving baths and peeling stickers off the furniture? I need to find a magic top coat.

Sally Hansen Cafe au Lait: This might be the third time I have blogged about this polish. I wear it all Summer/Spring. Yada yada. Doesn’t show chips as easily. Yada Yada. Love it.

I hope your suspicions about the shallowness of my mind have been confirmed. In my defense, it’s Monday. I wasn’t prepared for this.

Dressing for Staying at Home – The Rule of 3

Ever since I started reading Laura’s series on Style & the SAHM, I’ve been inspired to get my act together, and by act, I mean my wardrobe. I have SO MANY clothes. But, you know what? I never wear them. It’s the same faves day in and day out. So, I set out to do two things:

1. Pare down my wardrobe so I only own things I will wear

2. Wear them!

Let’s talk about the second part of that since Laura did a swell job with the first. I’m over at Fountains of Home with the rest of the deets that are sure to make you go hmm.

Knock Offs and Real Deals

Ellen is in her big girl bed not sleeping. Sam is finally in a crib – and we think he is sleeping. Mike is counting slats on the hardwood floor trying to center the area rug. I am staying away from those crazies and eating chocolate chip cookies while I make you look at pictures of me. Self-indulgent? Why, yes.

Here is what I wore for the Baptism of Our Lord. Trying to get Mike to scooooooch back just a leeeetle bit for these pictures. He’s all like, “I am not a Nigel!” And, I’m all like, “I’ll take what I can get.”
