A Day in the Life of Ellen (and Her Mommy)

November 7, 2011 By Jenna 11 Comments

What does a day look like in Ellen’s life? Let’s take a look:
7am-ish
Wake up for a morning feeding
7:30-9am-ish
Snuggle with mommy in bed
9am-11am-ish
Watch the news, play with my toys, eat and take a nap
11am-ish
Mommy takes a shower and gets ready. She sings the whole time to keep me entertained. Then she cleans me up and changes my clothes.
12pm-ish
Mommy and I run errands or clean the apartment. Mommy also works on her blog and jewelry making while I nap or eat.
4pm-ish
Mommy makes dinner while I am in my carrier
5pm-ish
Mommy watches Ellen with me. I like her name.
6pm-ish
Daddy comes home and I smile at him. Daddy eats dinner while Mommy watches because I always get hungry right when she puts dinner on the table.
7-11pm-ish
Mommy and Daddy take turns playing with me while the other one “gets some stuff done”
11pm-ish
Daddy rocks me to sleep and then Mommy and Daddy crawl into bed with me
In reality, our days are just a mish-mash of events that sound like this. I am trying to get out of the house at least once a day, even if it’s just to walk around Target (and not buying anything! GASP!) Here is the list of things I make sure I do each day if nothing else:

And, “ish” is really the operative word in our day. Ellen is on her own EASY schedule. Eat, Activity, Sleep, You (mommy) Time. It’s always that cycle, just in different time increments. It makes it easier to predict what she is going to want next, just not when she’ll want it. One step at a time!

Toys We Play With:
Animal Flashcards
Plush fruits and veggies
Sophie the Giraffe
Crib mirror

Songs We Sing:
“Do You Know the Way to San Jose?”
“Itsy Bitsy Spider”
“ABCs”
“I Am Slowly Going Crazy”
“Five Little Angels”
“Skinamarinkydinkydink”

“Shake My Sillies Out”
“I Love You a Bushel and a Peck”

It’s funny how the day can feel so busy, but you feel like you accomplish so little. I have to remind myself that I was caring for a baby, and that is accomplishing a lot!

I love easy. Wait till she’s older Jenna, because you started easy now, shell be so great as she gets older. Josephine is so schedule adaptable. Whatever time she wakes up for the day and eats starts that schedule. It’s an amazing blessing.

Our favorite books are these silly books by sandra boughton…red hat, green hat..and there is one about jammies but our favorite is about pigs that sing la la la! I forget the names, but they’re short board books.

What a nice little schedule!  I need to start making a point to get out more often, but it’s so stressful because Claire cries every time we put her in the carseat.  Hopefully that won’t last much longer… :)

Ellen just started crying in her carseat at night :( As a matter of fact, I am sitting here at my parent’s house right now because I couldn’t drive home last night (a 2 hour drive) because she was screaming bloody murder. I had to spend the night here, and I’m leaving this afternoon. Eeek!

It’s amazing how busy you can stay all day long at home with a little one! It never ceases to amaze me how busy I am at home with my boy. But it sure is fun!

Sullivan loves the “itsy bitsy spider” and “patty cake”. pretty much anything with hand movements. As for books, he could care less right now, he refuses to sit still so we tend to choose simple ones with big pictures of real things that are sturdy enough for him to chew on, as everything goes in the mouth. And, it’s a universal fact that it is impossible to go to Target and NOT buy something. It’s just not possible, I tell you!

One time, I left Target without buying something and the alarms went off. They searched me and said, “Ma’am, no one leaves Target without a purchase. Where did you hide it?”
