Closing date on the house has moved to Tuesday now. One of these days I will believe that we are actually moving in. Until then, I will torture myself by taking Ellen to Lowe’s everyday to look at paint samples only to bring them home and realize how different they look in real people light.

Mike and I got married and had kids young (um, we still are). Now that time in our life when we have weddings and showers every 42 seconds is now upon us, and it’s pretty pricey. Any advice on how to handle this?

We are soclose to deciding on a name for this bun.
Wanna know how we (maybe) chose it?
I was at a baby store and saw one of those personalized racks full of crap. So, I spun it and pointed to a name. Later that day, Mike said he pulled up next to a semi with the name plastered on the side. We are considering these to be very divine and holy signs…

You wanted to see Ellen pretend to be a dinosaur? Oh ok.

Let’s go back to talking about paint shopping. What? You’d rather watch it dry. That’s your call.
Anyway, can we talk about how I there are certain colors I may like, but I am hesitant to use because they are called things like Covered Wagon or La Fonda (Lafawnda??)? Who names this stuff?
On a related note, Ellen has been making me read her a paint sample book each night before bed. For serious.

It’s just so beautiful:

pinterest, you horrid beast

I started a new series called Catholic 101. You can read more about it here. If you want to contribute, email me and let me know. If we don’t like it, we will just pretend it never happened. Ok?
Visit Jen and say some prayers for her Joseph.

#6 Um, yummy!! Ready to start licking the computer screen.
Excited to see the new series too:)
Thanks, Patty! If you ever want to write a piece, let me know!
Oh, we know the joy of wedding season….and we didn’t get married young! If they are Catholic, consider offering a Mass for them or enroll them in a religious order’s perpetual Mass offering. We also like to give practical and fun books. Fr. Leo’s cookbook, a new prayer book for married couples whose name I now don’t remember but Beth had at the store, Household Blessings book…you get the drift. :)
That’s a great idea! It gets to pricey when the average gift at a wedding is $100!
Can’t wait to read more of your series! You’re making me hungry with that chocolate.
Thanks! If you ever want to write a piece, let me know!
When we were moving into our house last year, we did a LOT of paint chip sampling. My OCD husband insisted that any color I picked out, he had to get every other shade of it in the series (like if it was a paint chip that started with 72xxx he had to get ALL the 72s… if that makes sense). It was OB-noxious.
Also, I’d totally be up for writing a piece for your series. But of course, I can’t think of a darn thing I’d want to write about. I could easily write a snarky piece about how angels are angels and humans are humans and you don’t become an angel when you die… but that may not be what you’re looking for here. ;)
(Ok seriously, I’ll write something! Let me know if you have something specific in mind!)
Sounds like my hubs ;)
Also, I would love if you wrote a piece! And yes, that topic would be awesome. Here is kind of my criteria:
Basically what I am looking for are short (100-150 words) snippets on the Catholic faith. I want to make sure they are easily accessible to all people. The main audience I am trying to reach is people who may have fallen away from the Church or people who have misconceptions about Catholicism based on false information. I am looking for basic and easy apologetics topics :)
I love the divine signs!!! Lol! When God speaks, you listen no matter if it is delivered on a rack at the store or the side of a semi truck! After all, Will and still are not sure if Emma’s name was just a combo of Lucy’s two fav words – mama and Elmo!
hahaha I still think about that when we ask Ellen what we should name this baby. She insists his name is “daddy” now.
OKay, just have to throw my 2 cents in about the paint. We painted our house a couple of years ago, and the color we chose for our dining room is like my favorite paint color ever. It’s called Yarmouth Blue and I think it’s from Sherwin Williams. (my link: http://martinfamilymoments.blogspot.com/2009/11/interior-paint-makeover-finally.html)
Go get you some :)
with a link and all! thanks, you rock! also, i love the tranquil colors. totally what we are going for :)
Ha ha ha hilarious bedtime reading! I am very intrigued by your Catholic 101 series… :-)

If you ever want to write for it, lemmeno!
I love paint shopping. I get a little anxious about the actual choosing, but I love the shopping! I totally want to be the “paint mixer person” at Home Depot when I’m retired and the kids are out of the house. Just so I can look at someone and say “Wow. That’s an interesting color choice!” Hahaha!! In terms of gifts, I echo the person above – Masses for them, a nice crucifix for their house that you have blessed, cookbooks, etc. Especially a cookbook that you already have and use – you can write recommendations in there, etc. For baby showers, you can offer a meal or two after the baby is born, or an evening of child care so that the couple can have a date. All good things that people love getting, that are not expensive!
I’m checking out your new series….
Thanks, Kris! I appreciate the ideas :) Also, I will totally let you mix my paint when you retire ;)
Yes, I often wonders who comes up with those paint names myself. LOL. And I think that one of these home improvement stores has a machine that you can test out a small sample of paint on and it shows how the paint looks dry in sunlight, regular light bulbs and florescent.
Thanks for the tip! We tried it today when we got to the store!
