#5Faves: non-material gifts

September 29, 2015 By Jenna 11 Comments

Remember how I said we were going to Konmari our house? Still on. Like this:

And, in the wake of Konmari, my birthday sits. The big 3-0. Actually, I asked Mike if we could Konmari our house. Instead of receiving in celebration of my third decade, I want to give it all away.

But, what if you want to give someone a gift, but they don’t want more stuff? Here is what I would want:

5faves

-1-

Carpet Cleaning: Did I mention I was turning 30? We have a little postage stamp piece of carpet in our living room, but oh my. Oh my. Does it ever gather the grime. I would love a gift certificate for a nice carpet cleaning. I feel like I should just stop here. Everyone has left, yes?

-2-

Dinner and a Date: I always love going out to eat. I never do not like going out to eat. So, if you send me on my way to grab some pho with my bae, we’re alright.

-3-

Replace Something: I could really use a new set of flour sack towels or dutch oven. How much do you hate me right now?

-4-

Consumables: Anything that I can eat or use up…anything that goes away. Chocolate, fancy soap, flowers, et cet errrr ahhhh.

-5-

Amazon Gift Cards: What would I buy on Amazon, you ask? Books for my Kindle…which I love…because it’s a ton of books without the shelf space. Kindle haters gonna hate.

Airline flight vouchers/travel points, charitable donations made in my honor, some kind of subscription (my mom gets me the Magnificat for Christmas, but also Netflix, etc.), gas gift cards, and yes – AMAZON. All the moneys is spent there. Actually, someone buying my Amazon Prime membership for me would be pretty stellar.

Totally agree with all of these. I might add a Visa gift card so I could spend it anywhere.

What a great idea for your 30 th! Welcome to the best decade. If the sky were the limit, I would want a house cleaning service, a night alone w my husband at a fancy hotel, grocery shopping alone, and six hours of reading w my kids with no fights breaking out. Ha!

This is definitely a material item – but what about your own carpet cleaner? They are amazing at sucking up (bodily) fluids and the satisfaction of watching all the dirty water and seeing the clean carpet behind you? Bliss.

We like to do experience gifts…zoo membership, metro park passes, water park tickets, museum & restaurant gift certificates (think the DIA & Good Girls Go to Paris Crepes), Painting with a Twist and Cold Stone Creamery gift certificates for a fun date night. I want to try the new sensory deprivation tanks/float tanks (there’s a place in Southfield) and Oxygen Bar.

This one isn’t non-material, but we need to rip down the paneling in our family room and put up drywall…so a few sheets of drywall would come in handy as a gift.

Thank you for this recipe. I have been looking for this recipe for a while now since my brother started making me homemade salsa. I have tried to make my own but it never seems to turn out like I want it. I love the way this is so simple and easy to prepare and I can’t wait to try it because it looks delicious! My husband and I like it hot but if you don’t use all the roasted peppers you can save them for another recipe. It looks perfect!

I’m reading Dewey at the moment, but I’ll make sure to get some Darwin. I’ve read a lot about evolution — most recently David Sloan Wilson’s excellent Evolution for Everyone — but I should go back to the source.
